How Long Does It Take To Learn Speed Reading?

03 Feb

There is no perfect answer to how long does it take to learn speed reading. Some may take one month, some may take one week, some may take one day and some even learn speed reading in just one hour. The learning speed and time greatly depends on your efforts, practice and grasping power.

To help you learn the art of speed reading better, you have to be strong enough in your vocabulary and comprehension. Typically, you can easily obtain a word limit of 800-1500 words per minute and 95% comprehension. Average speed is about 250-300 words per minute and 70% comprehension.

You can learn day to day and keep on improving your grasping power and learning capabilities. If you think you can read one day and then leave a gap of few days and again use the book or software to practice speed reading, then you will never be able to increase your speed. You have to practice reading daily and also test your comprehension. Make yourself available with a range of reading materials and test yourself from time to time. Always set higher targets and keep on increasing your target when you become comfortable with the changing word limit per minute.

The best tip for learning faster is to check fixation and movement of your eye. Taking a large number of words in each fixation will help you read better and faster. Fixation is a point when your eyes get stuck at a word after moving across few words. Let your eyes move faster because you read what you see. If your eyes will move faster than normal, then eventually your speed of reading will also increase.

So, don’t take a judgment on the time period. It is your efforts and learning power that can determine the time required to learn speed reading.
